Mosaics

This course is for beginners and experienced mosaicists. Beginners will learn basic techniques and construct a mosaic that they have designed themselves. The more advanced can work on their own projects with the advice and guidance of the tutor, experimenting with new techniques if they wish. The tutor is a professional mosaic artist who has taught extensively and works mainly on commission for private clients, public bodies and arts organisations.

Embellished Fabric Flower Brooches

Learn from Vikki Lafford, dress and accessories designer, how to make beautiful, delicate fabric flowers to use as wearable art pieces, embellishments for clothing or textiles, or as hair clips or brooches. You will find out how to make a range of flowers in a wide variety of fabrics, using simple techniques and household tools. Vikki is an experienced tutor and working designer, who has recently completed a commission for the Royal Ballet.

China Restoration

Give new life to much-loved ceramics, whether they are porcelain, pottery, earthenware or stoneware. You will learn to identify ceramics and use safe cleaning methods, how to take apart bad repairs, how to assemble, which adhesives to use, and how to apply final colour and glaze. The tutor is a qualified ceramic conservationist and restorer and an experienced teacher.

Corn Dollies

Spend a day making corn dollies or ‘idols’. You will learn the four main types; plaits, braids, open spiral weaving and filled spiral weaving. Some of the history of corn dollies will also be covered, from their role in early pagan sacrificial rites through to modern day decorations.
