Sculpting in Clay

Spend a day working in clay with a professional sculptor and sculpture tutor, and develop creative and technical skills. You can choose to work on the human figure, imagined or portrait heads, animals or abstract forms. The course is suitable for all levels; those completely new to clay through to anyone who wishes to build on their existing experience.

Oil painting is actually surprisingly easy! It’s just ‘where to start’ that can be daunting. So, if you are an absolute beginner or nervous about oil painting, relax and enjoy a fun and accessible introduction to the art. By the end of the day you will have produced a small painting of a still life and sample boards to take home. Oil paints and materials are all supplied.

Felting Five Ways

A contemporary take on an ancient craft – spend a day with inspirational felter Sue Pearl and try out five felting techniques (with a couple more thrown in, time permitting!). These include flat felt, three-dimensional felt structures, cobweb felt, nuno felt, felt beads, felt with pockets and using resists. Working with beautiful merino wool in a myriad of colours, try your hand at blending colours, designing with colours and then adding different textures such as yarns, silks and other fibres.

Hand-embroider a lovely Easter decoration in goldwork. The simple design in golden metal thread will be set off beautifully by a lush background fabric. You will have a choice of different spring-like colourways. The design embroidered will incorporate the main types of metal thread and a variety of techniques. The tutor is a Royal School of Needlework graduate and the author of Goldwork: Techniques, Projects and Pure Inspiration.
