Summer Flowers for all Occasions

Create a stunning summer wreath for a garden tea party, wedding or to just enjoy in your home. Also learn to make a seasonal upright arrangement in a decorative container to complement your wreath. Summer wreaths are bursting with glorious seasonal flowers and foliage, and capture the colour and scent of summer. They can be hung or used as a lovely table centrepiece. Professional florist and NAFAS demonstrator Christine Pearce will provide guidance at every stage.

Transforming Textiles – Intriguing Surfaces for Stitch

Layer, stitch, bond and distort materials into a variety of rich textures and patterns, including delicate lace-like structures. This is a chance to experiment with kunin felt, transparent nets, organzas, metallic threads and packaging, and explore ways of transforming materials by layering and stitching. We will also use a soldering iron and heat gun to create new and innovative fabrics.

Fruit in Pastel - Still Life

Wood Engraving

Wood engraving produces prints of great detail and refinement, with a large tonal range, unlike the more common method of creating woodcuts. This two-day course will introduce beginners to all the basic tools and techniques of wood engraving. Reference books, a set of tools for each student, end-grain practice blocks, a block of lemonwood, Japanese paper, roller and ink will be provided. Printing will be by hand burnishing; a method that can be easily replicated at home.

Book Art – Paper Transformation

Explore the properties of ordinary printed paper while learning a new technique to produce attractive and tactile books. When screwed up many times, magazine pages become pliable and almost fabric-like, enabling them to be manipulated into a stylish material that you will use to create the cover of a designer book. Your book will be completed with hand-painted pages.
