Summary

This course is a follow-on to Reduction Lino Cuts. Extend your knowledge beyond printing simple layers of flat colour, to more advanced techniques. This course encourages a more painterly approach, introducing bleeds of colour and mixed-colour painting on the block.

Further Detail

You will be using a choice of set colour combinations to create a more complex, full-colour linocut. You’ll work through the entire process from design to finished print in this friendly and enjoyable class, learning many hints and tips for printing at home without a press. The course includes a full fact sheet with supplier list and instructions for making your own registration device at home

  • designing for a more painterly linocut
  • cutting techniques
  • preparing and printing a bleed of colour
  • creating a painterly effect with mixed colour
  • managing these effects to the print’s advantage

Level

For those with experince in colour reduction lino cuts.

Materials

Materials are not included in your course fee. All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £25, payable to the tutor during the course. 

We do not have the facilities to take card payments in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.

Please bring with you:

  • any ideas, sketches or photos that inspire you
  • an apron

The tutor will provide all the tools and supplies you need for the workshop.

Tutor Profile

Laura Boswell works mainly as a printmaker specialising in relief printing. She graduated from Aberystwyth University in Visual Art and Art History. Following a career in the photographic industry, she returned to printmaking several years ago, and in 2009 and 2013 was chosen as the British artist for residencies studying traditional printing in Japan. Her work has been acquired by the House of Lords and Buckinghamshire County Museum. She exhibits at galleries from Northumberland to Margate and is regularly invited to demonstrate at Art in Action. Laura writes for various publications and is currently Head of Section for Printmaking at Art in Action.

Timings & Refreshments

Coffee is available from 9.45am. The course starts at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm. Fresh ground coffee and a range of teas are provided all day, along with biscuits in the morning, a sandwich lunch and cake in the afternoon.
