Summary

A wonderful two-day course with stained glass artist and experienced tutor Nicola Kantorowicz. Make a lovely stained glass panel to your own design. You will learn how to cut class using a cutline template, cut and fit lead and solder the panel together.

Become familiar with the different tools, materials and methods involved in stained glass and create a finished panel to your own design. The process will involve creating a suitable design, making a template, selecting glass and colours, learning to lead and solder, cementing the panel, cleaning and finishing off your piece of work. You are welcome to choose from a number of existing templates if you would rather not design your own. There will be group demonstrations and individual guidance throughout the course.

Level

Beginners and those who wish to improve/refresh their skills. Good manual dexterity required.&

Materials

Materials are not included in your course fee. Materials will be provided by the tutor and students will be charged according to the size and number of panels they make. A suitable size panel for completing over the weekend is A3. This size is roughly 40cm x 30cm.

The cost of materials for an A3 size panel is £40. If you make several smaller pieces you will be charged accordingly. 

There is a £5 charge for the use of specialist tools and equipment. 

We do not have the facilities to take card payments in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.

Please bring with you:

  • a small hammer, only if you already have one
  • an apron and rubber gloves for cementing
  • please wear shoes with closed toes

This course involves the use of lead and is not suitable for pregnant women, anyone who might be pregnant or nursing mothers.

Tutor Profile

Nicola Kantorowicz has been designing and making stained glass for many years. She trained in both textile and stained glass design before spending time working in industry. Her commissioned windows can be seen in churches in Kent, Sussex, Oxfordshire, Suffolk and London. She is a Fellow of The British Society of Master Glass Painters. Recent projects include two rose windows for Banbury Town Hall and a panel for the prayer room at St Katherine House Hospice, Adderbury. Nicola enjoys helping her students to realise their ideas in glass. She is keen to keep the traditions of this ancient craft alive and vibrant.

Timings & Refreshments

Coffee is available from 9.45am. The course starts at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm. Fresh ground coffee and a range of teas are provided all day, along with biscuits in the morning, a sandwich lunch and cake in the afternoon.
