Brian Tonks completed his teacher training in 1985 in mechanical engineering at Huddersfield Polytechnic. On leaving college he taught Craft, Design and Technology in secondary schools for several years and became an exam moderator and test paper writer for the NEA examination board. 

In 1998 Brian attended Burnley college as a furniture restoration student and has been repairing and restoring antique furniture ever since. 

Brian's background is in crafts. He makes and restores guitars and produces 1/12th scale miniature furniture and other items for doll house enthusiasts.
