Wool Applique Christmas Cushion

Felted wool applique winter themed project featuring a cute snowman set into the word “Joy”. Would suit both beginners and intermediate sewers. A sewing machine will be needed for the cushion construction but the applique can be sewn by hand or machine and both methods will be demonstrated on the day by the tutor.

A great introduction to felted wool applique working on a small seasonally themed project. 

The cushion project features luxury felted wools and Valdani hand dyed threads from the USA.

Everyone is welcome on this course, from beginners to the more experienced needleworker.

Individuals will be fully supported by the tutor and actively encouraged to work at their own pace in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Those students who choose to hand sew may not finish within the day but will leave with all the skills necessary to complete the cushion in their own time.

Materials are not included in your course fee.

All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £27 payable to the tutor during the course.

Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials as the tutor cannot take card payments

Please bring with you:

General sewing kit

Sewing machine in full working order with both zigzag and straight stitches

A size 12 and a size 16 sewing machine needle

Neutral coloured cotton thread for assembling the cushion

We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.

Tutor Profile

Sallie enjoys traditional quilting techniques and has won several quilt show awards both in the UK and USA. During the course of her career to date she has taught for museums and department stores and has had her work published.

Sallie particularly enjoys small piecing, felted wool appliqué, punchneedle and loves to make Civil War reproduction quilts. She is a tutor/designer for the Valdani thread company.

Timings & Refreshments

The course starts at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm. Please aim to arrive between 9.30 and 9.45am to allow for a 10am start. Fresh ground coffee and a range of teas are provided all day, along with homemade cookies in the morning, complimentary sandwich lunch and cake in the afternoon. ​As peoples' allergies, intolerances, special diets and preferences are so many and varied, we are not able to cater for these. However, we will be able to cater for a gluten free diet so please tell us on arrival
