Untamed: Wild Animals in Wild Watercolour
Mon 7th September
10am - 4pm
Tutor: Kevin Scully
This workshop is suitable for beginners with a little know-how and those with more experience
The class offers the opportunity to inject real energy and freedom into your watercolour practice by throwing caution to the wind and letting go of traditional expectations of the medium. Working with wild animals as our subject, we will explore watercolour alongside a small selection of additional materials to create bold, lively and colourful paintings.
The emphasis will be on experimentation and expressive mark-making, encouraging you to discover what works for you. We will deliberately abandon unnecessary detail in favour of movement, atmosphere and character. There are truly no holds barred.
Through a series of playful and unconventional approaches, you will investigate the exciting possibilities of watercolour pushed beyond its comfort zone. As with any experimentation—particularly with watercolour—you can expect moments of both success and failure. However, the successes will far outweigh the failures, and each painting will contribute to a stronger, more confident personal approach. After all, if you strive for the mediocre, you will always be at your best.
All reference materials will be provided.
